Racers approach Comp Eliminator in different manners.  Some decide to load every hot setup and car into their box, and pull the trigger. Some breakdown every letter of the rulebook, and try to exploit a "soft" index.  Some put together safe, consistent combo's, and rely on their razor sharp reaction times.   And then there is Dennis "Foamy" Hill.   Foamy brings out a few bullets, loads them up carefully, and shoots them precisely.  Foamy had three cars that could have taken the title, and he ended up winning with his E/SC 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse running a 1.060 (-.35) against "Papa" Dave Walker and his A/M Camaro running 1.033 (-.27).

                        The Key Race

In the third round, Foamy was lined up against newcomer Kevin Jaramillo, and his A/SM 1995 Dodge Neon that had qualified #5 at .837 (-.73).  Foamy had qualified #9 at 1.037 (-.58), and used a superior reaction time to win with a 1.054 (-.41) to Kevin's faster .850 (-.60).  As you can guess, the difference was at the tree.  And for those who questions the consistency of a heads up FWD car, the Eclipse ran within 9 thou for the remainder of eliminations.

                        Super Shootout

This was the first time that the SCCEC hosted a "Super Shootout".  This class was an combination of Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street.  Pick your index, cut your pro light, and run the tightest package possible.  In case the above picture isn't a clear give away, Dennis "Foamy" Hill dominated that class too.  His tried and trued PT Cruiser was flawless all day. One of BPIR's most deadly racers, Paul Wilde, finished second with his S/G Chevy Nomad.

                        About the winning Comp Car

Foamy's 1997 Eclipse started as a simple AMT kit.  What it turned into was a consistent, fast, FWD Comp competitor.  The car is made up of a WRP Pro Sidewinder chassis, a S16d motor with a Parma 502 can, Kelly magnets, a Pro Slot endbell and S16d arm.  The power is put to the half-shafts through a Sonic TriLight crown/Xtra light pinion combo.  Finally, JDS Yellowdot rubber on Sonic wheels make sure the front end goes down the 55ft straight and true.  House of Colors paint from primer to clearcoat ensures that it looks good in its winning photo.  All work performed by Dennis "Foamy" Hill.

                        The Runner Up

If anyone has made a habit of going rounds, setting records, and smashing indexes at a SCCEC event, it has been "Papa" Dave Walker.  "Papa" was able to take a string of consistent passes, and turn them into a Runner Up finish with his great reaction times.  His car  consist of the following parts:  WRP brass motor mount and guide mount, JDS stainless steel tubing, JDS .300 wide tires, Sonic gears, and a Mad Dog vaccu-formed Camaro F/C body.  Motor?  You should know, "Papa" can make any Falcon scream.

                        Did You Know?

                        • Dan O'Connor was able to schedule a family vacation to Southern California, take in the sights, pull a 1998 Camaro out of the suitcase, and qualify in the #10 spot.  You could smell the suntan lotion as it went down the track.  Impressive.
                        • Mike Rogers A/D was going faster as the day progressed, but did not touch the index.  Mike knows how to play the Comp game.
                        • Foamy qualified #1 with his A/T at .792 (-.103).  So that makes the Dakota #1, the Ranger #2, and the S-10 #3?

                        • Octavian took the C/SM record from .931 down to .914.  Can any other C/SM run faster?
                        • Edgar P made a strong run to the semi's in his BB/PM 1968 Pontiac Firebird.  He also has a few fast turbo cars coming out very soon.  Speaking of turbo cars...

Poor Dakota. It qualifies number one, resets a record, and still has to sneak in the picture of the gorgeous little brother.
                        • After a morning thrash, "Foamy" debuted this beautiful 23t in DD/AT.  2332 cc's of turbo charged, air cooled rage. It broke the existing DD/AT record on its 3rd pass down the track, and set it at .927.
                        • Kevin Jaramillo made a strong showing at the SpringNationals.  On his record setting .827 A/SR pass, he locked up the brakes, ran through the sand trap, and crashed to the floor.

                        Team JDS/O'Connor racing lineup.
                        • Dan O'Connor and Team JDS almost ran away with the Super Shootout.  His lights were good all day, and he had a shot to win it all.
                        • 38 cars made the call to first round qualifying.  Octavian Hathorn, Kenny Hall, Gary Lum, and Edgar Pasillas got bumped out.
