First Annual Comptoberfest @ the Park
Comp
Octavian Hathorn decided that the best way to win an SCCEC Comp Eliminator
event is by mounting the slicks on the front wheels.
And just like the last event, his F/SC 1994 Acura Integra pushed him to
a win at the first annual Comptoberfest presented by the SCCEC. After
consistently running -0.050 to -0.060 under during eliminations, he turned
up the boost to run a 1.038 (-0.107) to defeat "Nova" Nick Zink and his
A/PM 2000 turbocharged Ford T-bird in the finals.
The Key Race
In the quarter finals, Octavian had to line up against #2 qualifier, "Papa"
Dave Walker, and his furious D/M 71 Corvette. "Papa" Dave had qualified
-0.086 under, and was planning to take the Vette to the final round.
Usually, the consistency and reliablity of the D/M small block Falcon in
"Papa" Dave's Corvette would prove superior to the inconsistent at best,
F/SC FWD layout. However, this time, "Papa" Dave's Corvette had mechanical
problems, and slowed to a 1.337.
Super Gas
In Super Gas, Dennis "Foamy" Hill maneuvered not one, but two of his cars
through the always tight Super Gas field to finish 1
st
and 2
nd
. Making a Super Gas final is impressive, but to take home the winner
and runner up spots with his always tough Volvo wagon and Chrysler Sebring,
Dennis made it seem almost too easy. One of the most fantastic things
about "Foamy", is when he is off, he is still a good racer. But during
Super Gas eliminations, "Foamy" was on, and no one could touch his cars
performance, or his driving.
About the winning car
The 1994 Acura Integra was originally constructed by Brandon Skeen of
Honolulu, Hawaii. This is the third time that a car out of Skeen Racecars
has made the final of a SCCEC event. The custom fabricated brass
chassis is outfitted with a Pro Slot Speed FX S16d, which puts the power
to the ground through Sonic gears, and Pro Track rubber.
The Runner Up
After honing his skills at the mini-bike street races, "Nova" Nick Zink
decided to go legit and take it to the track. Deadly on the lights,
and ready to jump behind the wheel of anything, Nick was able to tune the
2000 T-bird to his first SCCEC final round appearance. The A/PM
2000 Ford Thunderbird is built with a DRS chassis, powered by a Pro Slot
Dragmaster can, magnets, and armature. Sonic gears and vintage Speed
Secret rubber starts and stops this Pro Modified machine.
Did you know?
- 11 of the 32 qualifiers were powered by Falcons? With the popularity of the BP Spec Class, the Falcon popularity doesn't seem to be waning any time soon.
- Dennis "Foamy" Hills S/G Volvo wagon had a cash bounty on it for every round, and it still survived. Thats a bad man, who drives a bad car.
- "Papa" Dave Walker qualified #1 (-0.091), #2 (-0.086), #5 (-0.073), and #16 (-0.050), all with Falcon power. The Falcon's start in the High Desert.
- Jim Chapmans AA/SM 69 Camaro was getting sorted out during the day, qualifying in the #30 spot. Here's a tip: He's got it sorted out now.
- Keith Dancy is patiently bumping up the D/NPS index in his 69 Dodge Dart. Word on the street is that car has alot left in it.
